Best New Cheese Retailer Award 2009

Winner 2009

Town Mill Cheesemonger

Mill Lane

Lyme Regis

Dorset

In response to the growing demand for local produce it is perhaps not surprising that, despite the economy, new retailers are still springing up all over the country.  It is only those like The Town Mill Cheesemonger, however run by someone who is genuinely passionate and committed to buying and supporting local producers, that survive.

Justin Tunstall decided to give up a successful career in publishing and return to his home town of Lyme Regis and set up a deli.  In November 2008 he found the perfect site in the old Town Mill and despite its size, barely big enough to swing a cat, he has stocked it floor to high ceiling with local products and especially local cheese.  Within a month of opening in July 2009 he was selling more than triple the amount of cheese he had expected.
