What are the British Cheese Awards?
A SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE
Over the last 15 years we have seen a revolution in the British cheese industry with old recipes revived, new ones created and rare breeds re-established. To highlight this extraordinary diversity and the superb quality of our cheese, the British Cheese Awards were established in 1994.
Since then, Britain's cheesemakers enter their cheeses each year, hoping to win a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal, now established as a symbol of excellence. The winners, along with all British cheese, are then highlighted at the Great British Cheese Festival (sponsored by Food from Britain) held on the last weekend in September each year, followed by "British Cheese Week" - a nation-wide campaign generously supported by the media and the enthusiasm of retailers, pubs and restaurant throughout Britain.
“Cheese, a combination of man’s ingenuity and one of Mother Nature’s finest miracles, milk."
J. Harbutt
