British Cheese Awards 2003
- The Trade Day -
Friday 26th September 1400 - 1730 Blenheim Palace
Full details of the seminars etc plus a booking form will be published shortly, however the following outlines the main events.
The Workshops
1400 - 1730
A series of discussion and topical workshops for producers, retailers, chefs and caterers are planned to encourage the trade to take time out from their kitchens, offices or shops.
As a result of a visitors survey, we plan to include a Cheesemaking Demonstration, a session on bread, a workshop on Making a Cheeseboard Profitable and a special tasting for overseas buyers unfamiliar with the diversity and quality of our modern and traditional cheeses.
Britain's Biggest Cheese Market
Housed in a huge marquee, this is the focal point of the Awards and the Festival where cheesemakers can meet and talk to over 400 of Britain's key buyers, top retailers, chefs, and caterers in an afternoon. As in previous year's we expect the market to be totally sold out. The number of stands remains however unchanged so we do not dilute individual exhibitors' takings. If you work in the industry, this is a unique opportunity to see, taste and buy over 700 cheeses and meet over 75% of Britain's cheesemakers.
Food from Britain Market
Now we have the space, we have been able to respond to our trade visitors' requests for a second market featuring non-cheese products from small mostly artisan producers from around Britain. The majority will be members of the regional food groups supported by Food from Britain.
This will enhance the value of the Festival particularly for independent retailers and chefs, without detracting from its' main purpose - to promote the diversity and quality of British Cheese.
"As in previous years, the Festival will raise awareness of the fantastic range of British cheeses, and now also other products to both UK and international trade buyers and consumers, and in turn help to increase sales both at home and overseas."

Other Attractions
We are still confirming the various activities planned for the Awards and the Festival however Fortnum & Mason will be open in the afternoon for teas and coffee and possibly the English Wine Bar and Plymouth Gin Palace with a band to help make the day go with a swing.
